About Tellas
Largely inspired by flora and foliage, Tellas uses abstract organic patterns, recognizable by a sophisticated aesthetic and a great attention to details, to create poetic and meditative artworks. Ranging from drawings on paper to large-scale murals all over the world. By juxtaposing his work directly into the urban context, Tellas reflects on the ties between humans and nature and the complex dynamics that blends us into a singular system.

Destination: Cantina Martinelli, Italy
A stones throw away from the city of Verona, you will find Cantina Martinelli. Here, in the classic area of Soave, you will find the old vineyards on the volcanic soil of Fitta. The home of the grapes which are grown to produce the natural wines that Cantina Martinelli has become known for. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified with spontaneous fermentations. Always with the intention to make a low intervention natural wine that expresses the most of its grape and its terroir.
For his stay we have connected Tellas with Francesco Martinelli. Francesco, with his artistic background coming out of photography, design and music is now the winemaker of Cantina Martinelli and Tellas his guide through the vineyards and canteens of the area. During the week Tellas will be getting familiar with and be a part of every step of the process of artisanal and traditional natural wine making.

A little word by Tellas…
"Cantina Martinelli is located in Soave, a wonderful area of north-eastern Italy, where wine has an important history. We spent several days in the Cantina, one of which was dedicated to pressing the grapes, in the most "primitive" way. We crushed the grapes with a vintage crush destemmer, and then filtered, as minimal as possible, the wine with only a simple net, to make sure that while the wine is in the bottle it keeps as much of its essence as possible.
During my week in Soave we also took a day trip to Venice, which happens to be one of my favorite cities of the world. Besides walking around this beautiful city all day we drank wine in various places, and in each of these places we tasted different wines. For my artwork I have tried to insert the typical color of the Venice lagoon, with a whole series of shapes which I captured on this journey.
It was a pleasure to be able to be fully immersed in the world of natural wine for a whole week. What impressed me the most was the amount of work and passion that the producers put into the production of their wine. I am used to drinking wine from a bottle and I don’t think much more about it. I learned that there are some important steps to follow in the process of wine making, and each of these steps give meaning to the wine. I’m looking forward to check back in with our wines in about a year to see and taste the result."
