About Nigel Peake
Looking at the work of Nigel Peake, it comes as no surprise that a study of architecture preceded his career in drawing. His drawings show a keen eye for patterns and structures while being complimented with a soft and natural colour palette. During the past years Nigel has published over 35 books, including the two bookshelf must-haves ‘In the Wilds’ and ‘In the City’. Through blending his personal interests with sharp observations of his surroundings Nigel has created a truly unique visual language.
More examples of Nigel’s work can be found on his website; www.nigelpeake.com

A little word by Nigel Peake
“6 days, 40 hours of traveling to get to and return from, 4 taxis, 4 trains, 2 boats, 3 ferries, 3 different sleeping places, and 102 km walked, 2 days of sunshine, 2 days of gales, 1 day of fog, 3 islands, 66 pages drawn on, 5 pages written on.
Islands are uncanny places. They can be difficult to get to and tricky to return from. The Isles of Scilly have many sides, wild and tame, colourful and monochrome, loud and quiet. I did not have any expectations, which is the beautiful thing about the unknown. I did no research and so I found things by mistake or by seeing and then walking to it. Following things in the distance, outcrops or inlets, signal towers or light houses. When I got to where I was going I would then just sit and look out into the far.It is not my nature to be instant in reaction to a place, I like to be slow especially when I am trying to figure out what I am going to make.
The gentleness of the strong wind, the quietness of the night and the strength of the sea. The distance of the sea.”

Islands are uncanny places. They can be difficult to get to and tricky to return from. The Isles of Scilly have many sides, wild and tame, colourful and monochrome, loud and quiet. Most of my time was spent walking to no particular place, just following things in the distance, outcrops or inlets, signal towers or light houses. When I got to where I was going I would then just sit and look out into the far.
